Carnegie Hall – May 2025
Chrismon Chorale’s Spring 2025 concerts were attended by enthusiastic and responsive audiences at Presbyterian Church of the Way in Shoreview and Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington. One additional musical challenge, however, remained for Chrismon Chorale this Spring.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Chrismon Chorale singers accompanied by the North Central University Concert Chorale (and alumni), the St. Andrew Lutheran Church Canticle Choir and a select group from A Subtle Note (a New Jersey chorale) joined their voices to perform Michael John Trotta’s Light Shines in the Darkness and to premiere his newest work, Five Psalms, in New York’s Carnegie Hall. Trotta composed Five Psalms specifically “for Larry” and chose him to rehearse and to conduct this New York premiere.
Following intensive rehearsals on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings, on Memorial Day the combined choirs, accompanied by the 47-member New England Symphonic Ensemble, sang in the Isaac Stern Auditorium / Ronald O. Perelman Stage to another receptive and responsive audience.
Following the concert, Bach congratulated the choir for performing with remarkable artistry and musicality, naming this performance a highlight of his career. Trotta was also impressed and gratified by the Chorale’s presentation of his new work.
Now that the 2024-2025 concert season is complete, we sincerely thank all who have supported Chrismon Chorale in the past and who will continue with us into the future. A new, challenging, and rewarding 2025-26 concert season awaits.
Upcoming Spring Concerts
Chrismon Chorale’s Spring Concert Series will feature two major works by New York composer, Michael John Trotta: “Five Psalms” and “Light Shines in the Darkness.”
“Five Psalms” is an entirely new work that Chrismon Chorale will premiere in the Twin Cities on Saturday, May 3, 4:00 pm at Presbyterian Church of the Way in Shoreview, MN, and again on Sunday, May 4, 4:00 pm at Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington, MN.
The composer, Michael John Trotta, dedicated “Five Psalms” “for Larry Bach,” and personally requested that Bach conduct the premiere New York performance in Carnegie Hall on Memorial Day, 2025. Members of Chrismon Chorale, alumni and current singers from the North Central University Concert Chorale, and members of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church Canticle Choir will join Bach in New York for that performance.
Trotta creates music that resonates with international audiences, from Carnegie Hall to cathedrals and concert halls around the world. Choir and Organ Magazine described his music as “elegant, singable music with a strong, spiritual heft.”

Chrismon Chorale’s Fall Concert Series exceeded expectations, with enthusiastic capacity audiences on Saturday (11/16/24) and Sunday (11/17/24) afternoons.
Rehearsals will begin on 2/18/25 for Spring concerts at Presbyterian Church of the Way in Shoreview (5/3/25) and Cedar Valley Church in Bloomington (5/4/25), both at 4:00 pm. The Spring concerts will feature an entirely new sacred choral work, “Five Psalms,” created by New York composer, Michael John Trotta.
Members of Chrismon Chorale, accompanied by a contingent of those who have sung under Larry Bach’s direction from North Central University, St Andrew Lutheran Church, and other choral organizations, will also join them to premier this work in New York’s Carnegie Hall on Memorial Day weekend, with Bach chosen by Trotta to conduct.

Following a successful 2023-24 choral season, Chrismon Chorale now enthusiastically anticipates its 2024-25 Fall and Spring concerts. Rehearsal and concert dates are already established, and all venues are now confirmed for both semesters. Here are the concert dates and locations that you can record on your calendar:
FALL 2024
- Saturday, November 16, 4:00 pm, Cross of Glory Church, Hopkins, MN
- Sunday, November 17, 4:00 pm, Salem Covenant Church, New Brighton, MN
SPRING 2025
- Saturday, May 4, 4:00 pm, Presbyterian Church of the Way, Shoreview, MN
- Sunday, May 5, 4:00 pm, Cedar Valley Church, Bloomington, MN
Auditions for those who would like to join Chrismon Chorale for the first time, but who have never sung with Larry, and those who have not sung with the Chorale in the past three years, will occur on Tuesday evening, August 27, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Music Room at Cedar Valley Church (our rehearsal room). Those who plan to audition need to contact Chorale Board President, John Halvorsen — (ejejpj@comcast.net, or 651-341-8101 by phone or text) so that he can place them on the audition schedule.
The Chorale also has several important personnel needs. If you are interested in any finding out more information about the positions listed below, please email or call/text John Halvorsen at the contacts noted above.
- A Social Media Director to manage Facebook, YouTube, and other social media sites.
- Additional Board Members. Board membership is not restricted to Performing Members but also includes those who have a passion for sacred choral music and who possess a variety of leadership, financial, and administrative skills that could benefit the organization.
- Chorale Singers. More tenors and basses are always welcome.
Chrismon Chorale Spring Concert will be live-streamed
The 2024 Spring Concert for Chrismon Chorale, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 7:30 pm from the Presbyterian Church of the Way (PCOTW) in Shoreview, MN, will be livestreamed.
Those who wish to connect with the livestream can do so by:
